Foray into Furniture

Having had plenty of downtime during the pandemic/lockdown, boredom began to set in. Desperate for something productive and different to do, I tore through my garage and attic searching for items to repurpose and areas to reorganize. I found an old wooden trunk that was falling apart and two sad looking wood tray tables.
The trunk hah a layer of old paint, cracks in the wood and water damage. I did quite a bit of rebuilding, patching, wood filling and sanding. I chose not to remove all the old paint and instead just scuff sanded the entire piece.
After looking at the items and letting ideas ruminate, taking into account paint option I had on hand already, I decided on a nautical/beach theme. I planned to make these items into a casual coffee table and end table set. I opted to use chalk paint and I loved the look.
I painted the set in a pretty navy blue and hand painted a beautiful compass rose design on the truck in white.
I added large I bolts to the tabletop corners and strung some fresh white rope through them. I tied the rope ends with a sailors knot.
I finished the pieces with a few layers of wax and I loved the finished product.
It was great fun too! What do you think?
